STEVENS POINT, Wis. — Marinette’s swimming season ended at Saturday’s Division 2 Colby/Abbotsford Sectional.

The event was held at UW-Stevens Point.

Katie Hruska beat her seed time in the 50-yard freestyle by three-hundredths of a second with a time of 30.03 to place 28th. Maddie Schultz took 33rd with a time of 31.21, Abby Wingender placed 39th (34.74), and Abi Duda took 41st (36.14) for the Marines. Duda beat her seed time by .65 second.

Mikayla Vieth bettered her seed time in the 100 free by 2.39 seconds. She placed 32nd with a time of 1:10.05. Jessica Weiss was 35th (1:15.48), Keylee Floriano placed 36th (1:25.63) and Kim Pieper took 37th (1:27.39). Floriano beat her seed time by more than two seconds.

In the 100 backstroke, Wingender took 30th with a time of 1:33.12 and Pieper was 31st (1:47.90).

Weiss finished 29th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:35.94, and Floriano placed 31st (1:51.40).

Marinette’s 400 free relay team of Schultz, Weiss, Vieth and Kruska placed 14th with a time of 4:53.98. Marinette’s 200 medley relay team of Wingender, Vieth, Hruska and Schultz placed 15th with a time of 2:26.42. The 200 free relay team of Schultz, Wingender, Vieth and Hruska placed 15th with a time of 2:09.68.

The top two individuals and relays from each of four sectionals, plus eight additional qualifiers, advanced to the state meet, to be held Friday and Saturday at the UW Natatorium in Madison.

Tomahawk won the 14-team sectional title with 345 points and Rice Lake was second with 269. Marinette scored 14 points.
