PESHTIGO - Peshtigo protected its M&O Conference winning streak like a bulldog with a new-found bone against a challenge from a young and talented Crivitz team Friday night.

The Bulldogs broke away from a 24-22 halftime lead for a 54-41 victory in front of a large and noisy crowd at the Dog Pound.

Peshtigo extended its league winning streak to 56 games, but it didn't come easy against the fired-up and previously unbeaten Wolverines.

In the span of 18 seconds, Peshtigo bumped a four-point lead to a nine-point margin.

The Bulldogs held a 32-28 lead in the waning seconds of the third quarter when Gunner Kinney scooped up a loose ball, spun around and zipped a pass to Logan Noffke, who sailed in for an uncontested layup.

Crivitz worked the ball around for a last shot before Jordan Berth swiped the ball and drove in from halfcourt for a three-point play with two-tenths of a second left in the quarter.

Brendon Thomas dished off to a wide-open Zack Neumann for a layup and an 11-point lead to open the fourth quarter.

Colton Lange trimmed the deficit under double digits (41-32) when he zapped in a 3-pointer with 5:02 remaining, but Neumann quickly countered with a 3-ball from the corner to push the Bulldogs' lead to 44-32. Another 3-point laser from Neumann stretched the lead to 47-33 with 2:52 left in the game.

The Wolverines sank just 27 percent of their shots from the floor and misfired on eight of nine shots during the Bulldogs' fourth-quarter run.

Crivitz led for most of the first quarter before Berth buried a triple with 11 seconds left to knot the score at 10-10.

A Neumann steal and Darius Dohl basket from the corner gave the Bulldogs a 16-10 lead early in the second period.

Ben Fischer's spin move followed by a layup that curled into the basket cut the lead to 20-18 and Lange swished a pair of free throws to pull the Wolverines even (22-22) with 42 seconds left in the half.

Dohl sank a shot while being hacked to give Peshtigo its 24-22 halftime lead.

The Bulldogs held a five-point lead early in the third quarter before Jeremy Kralovetz zeroed in a 3-pointer. Peshtigo had an answer again as Neumann yanked the twine with another three to restore the five-point (32-27) lead.

The Bulldogs nailed 40 percent of their shots and contained the outside firepower of Fischer and the Wolverines. Crivitz connected on just four two-point shots in the game.

When the Wolverines sent Berth to the line, he made them pay for it -sinking 8 of 12 tries during his 23-point night. Neumann had 17 points, highlighted by his four 3-pointers.

Crivitz hung with the Bulldogs because of its 18 of 24 night at the line. Lange sank 8 of 10 free throw attempts and finished with 16 points. Fischer's points came at the line, hitting 7 of 8 shots in his 11-point outing.

Kralovetz finished with nine points, all on 3-pointers.

Peshtigo won the junior varsity game 54-27. Tyler Marquardt led the Bulldogs with 13 points.

The Bulldogs (5-0) stand alone atop the M&O Conference with their 3-0 record. The Wolverines (5-1) slip to 3-1 in league play. Crivitz plays at Florence Monday and Peshtigo visits Suring Dec. 19.
