MARINETTE - The Peshtigo Predators scored twice in the sixth inning and held off the Marinette Redbirds for a 6-5 Wishigan League victory at Pedersen Ball Park Wednesday night.

The game was tied at 4-4 entering the sixth inning when Peshtigo combined back-to-back singles from Mitch Mergener and Cody Nelson and a Max Hipke sacrifice into its winning rally.

The Redbirds trimmed the lead to 6-5 in the bottom of the sixth on a leadoff double by Jason Hofer and Cody Woods' sacrifice fly to left field.

Mergener retired eight of nine batters after Hofer's double before Jordan Powers drew a one-out walk to put the tying run on in the ninth inning. Mergener wrapped up the win with a strikeout and a fly to center field.

Marinette took a 1-0 lead in the first on Powers' leadoff single and Pat Wolard's RBI single.

Todd Olsen coaxed a leadoff walk in the second and scored on Woods' single to give the Redbirds a 2-0 lead.

The Predators evened the score in the third on a single by Jake Engels and walks to Mike Mergener and Joey Sparks.

Wolard's solo blast in the third regained the lead for Marinette.

Hofer led off the Marinette fourth with a single and scored on Woods single to give the Redbirds a 4-3 lead.

Peshtigo took advantage of five straight walks to tie the game in the fifth inning. A 1-2-3 double play kept the Predators from grabbing the lead.

Mitch Mergener scattered seven hits, struck out six and overcame four walks and two hit-batters to post the win.

Cully Falkenberg started for the Redbirds and gave way to Nick Brukardt in the fifth. Brukardt yielded five hits and two earned runs while taking the loss.

Jake Engels, Mike Mergener, Nelson and Sparks each had two hits to pace the Predators' 10-hit output.

Wolard, Hofer had two hits to lead Marinette's seven-hit attack.
