Story included some unclear wording
An article in Wednesday’s EagleHerald entitled “Plan to place sex offenders protested” included some unclear wording in its body.
A sentence in the article read “In 2016, Wisconsin Act 156 took effect in the state, which gave the Department of Health total authority to place sex offenders in residences under 980.08 Wisconsin Statute.” In fact, Act 156 gives the DHS authority to locate proposed housing for sex offenders in counties predetermined by the circuit court, and the court retains its authority to approve or deny plans submitted by the DHS.
