SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — Troopers from the Michigan State Police Post here report that a missing 11-year-old autistic child has been found and returned to his parents.

The child was reported missing from his residence in Rudyard Township in Chippewa County at 7:45 pm. Friday. The parents reported the child wearing only a shirt and pants and no jacket had walked away from their residence and would not be located in the area which consisted of woods and fields. Troopers assisted by a K9 unit searched the area for the child and a State Border Patrol Unit and the Department of Natural Resources searched area roads.

The Michigan State Police Aviation Unit was contacted and began responding with a helicopter to assist in the search. At approximately 10:40 p.m. Friday the child was located by the K9 unit in a hunting cabin about one mile from his residence. The child while being cold and wet was otherwise in good health. He was evaluated by the Kinross EMS, no medical treatment was sought.
