WPS to perform siren warning
MARINETTE — The Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) will perform a test of the siren warning systems near the Caldron Falls and High Falls hydroelectric dams in Marinette County on Nov. 15. The testing will include periodic soundings of the sirens between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. The sirens are installed as part of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) safety program to protect recreationists and residents downstream of hydroelectric facilities.
In the event of an actual emergency, people are reminded to:
Be alert for changing water conditions such as rising water levels or faster current.
Monitor the NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards station and local news organizations for vital weather-related information.
Move to higher ground if flooding occurs.
Avoid areas that are already flooded.
Never drive through flooded roadways.
Camp or park vehicles away from streams and rivers during severe weather conditions.
