Fall drug collection a success
MARINETTE — The Marinette County Sheriff’s Department participated in the Fall 2017 Drug Take Back on Saturday.
Sheriff Jerry Sauve said the collection since last April’s Drug Take Back was 13 boxes weighing 374 pounds. He said the collected pharmaceuticals were transported to the State of Wisconsin Department of Justice pick up point in Fond du Lac on Monday for proper disposal.
Sauve reminds the public to make use of the drop boxes year-round at the Law Enforcement Center, 2161 University Drive, Marinette. There are also boxes at Menominee County Sheriff’s Department and both the Marinette and Menominee city police departments.
Marinette’s WPDES permit reissued
MARINETTE — The State of Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) chose to reissue the City of Marinette’s Wisconsin Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (WPDES) permit after a public notice period for its existing discharge from the Wastewater Utility into the Menominee River.
The Wastewater Treatment Facility discharges its effluent into the Menominee River via Outfall 001, located approximately two miles upstream from its mouth at Green Bay. The system was last upgraded in 1990.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has reviewed the facility’s functionality and did not object to the reissuance of the permit.
