Celebrate Community! It’s a slogan for a promotional event that has a nice ring to it.

The M&M Community Foundation, the area’s top agency when it comes to helping people, places and organizations to continue their kind deeds in our communities, is hosting Celebrate Community! Nov. 18 at the Menominee Marina. The program will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event has been designed to highlight and celebrate organizations and programs that are important to our area communities. Community Foundation is working with nonprofits, schools and churches to showcase their efforts. All citizens of our local communities are encouraged to attend to become educated about local programs and projects and their impacts across the community.

Some 30 organizations will be represented at the event. There will be free horse-drawn carriage rides, Christmas tree sales, food vendors, Spies Public Library activities and live music by Chosen Generation. Santa will make a special appearance with complimentary professional photos from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Event attendees, 18 or older, may register for over $2,800 in free prizes. In order to be eligible to win, people must visit booths to learn about various organizations. Attendees will be surprised at the number and quality of gifts that will be offered.

“We are pleased with the interest shown by local nonprofits planning to attend this event. This first-ever day of celebration is shaping up to be a big success,” noted Paula Gruszynski, executive director of M&M Area Community Foundation.

Community Foundation leaders said they were honored when approached by the Menominee Downtown Business Association to organize and host this new activity. The first 50 families to bring an old string of less efficient holiday lights to the Community Foundation’s clean energy booth will receive a free set of LED lights. The holiday light exchange is funded by the C.S. Mott Clean Energy grant received by Community Foundation.

Nonprofits, schools and churches interested in having a table at the event should notify Gruszynski at 906-864-3599.

A long string of nonprofit organizations will be participating in Celebrate Community! They are organizations well-known for helping projects and programs in our home communities.

Thumbs up to the Menominee Downtown Business Association for coming up with the idea, and thumbs up to the M&M Area Community Foundation for putting it together. We view the event as a splendid way to prepare for the holiday season.
