Virginia M. Wiegers, 91, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away Friday, August 16, 2013 at her residence. Virginia was born on August 12, 1922 in Mackinac Island, Mich. to Clarence and Helen (Holden) La Chance.
She married William A. Wiegers on October 9, 1946 in Marinette, Wis. He died in 1983. She attended Marquette University in Michigan and later was employed at Ray's Shoe Store and Orpha's, both of Mauston. She retired in 1983. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Virginia enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting and many other crafts. She also enjoyed spending time with her faithful companions Meka and Turbo.
Virginia is survived by two children: Susan (Clarence) Droste of Wisconsin Rapids and Kenneth (Sheryl) Wiegers of Sarasota, Fla.; seven grandchildren: Katie Wiegers, Erin Wiegers, Gregory Wiegers, Andrew Wiegers, Amanda Wiegers, Sonja (Todd) Christ and Scott Droste; great-grandchildren: Scotty, Shane, Tyler, Hailey, Ethan, Dakota, Sidney and Jvon; and former daughter-in-law, Julie Wiegers of Kaukauna. She was preceded in death by her husband, William; son, Stephen Wiegers; parents, one sister, and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. John Steiner will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.
Burial will take place at Forest Home Cemetery in Marinette, Wis.
