Richard William Smith
My loving husband, our dear father and proud grandfather and great-grandfather, Richard William Smith, of Menominee, left us suddenly on Sunday, September 22, 2013, at Aurora Trauma Medical Center in Green Bay. He was born September 16, 1931, to Charles and Margaret (Bauer) Smith.
In 1952 he joined the United States Army and became one of the Green Beret Elite. Rich married the love of his life, Marie White, in 1964 and their families became one. He worked at the Marinette Fire Department and retired in 1985. He then worked at Shopko for many years, enjoying the company of many great people. Rich was a man of few words. He traveled to many places, took on some great adventures and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; making sure his arms were open for hugs of joy, only to hear his familiar chant, "come here Farmer". A memory his family will continue to carry on. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Marinette.
Rich is survived by his loving wife, Marie; and their combined family: Richard (Carole) Smith, Jr., Rodney (Carol) Smith, Jerilyn (Clyde) Ullman, Roland (Sue) Smith, Jenna (Tim) Coffey, Deb (David) Walker, Laurie Hetland, Cynthia (Dennis) Bubolz, Darcey (Jim) Lukaszka and J. Allen (Keesha) Smith; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald Smith; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; three sisters; three sons; and a grandson.
Friends may call at St. Paul's Episcopal Church from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2013. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the church with the Rev. William L. Bippus officiating.
Entombment will be in Glenwood Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for St. Paul's Church.
Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home is assisting the family.
