Richard "Dick" E. Bretl, 82, of Menominee, Mich., passed away on Monday, October 14, 2013, at Bay Area Medical Center. He was born on March 9, 1931, in Menominee, Mich. to the late Frank and Isabelle (Wautlet) Bretl.
Dick married the former Betty Kamin on December 4, 1954, at St. Williams Catholic Church in Menominee, Mich. Dick joined the United States Marines where he was deployed and fought in Korea. After he served his country he came home and worked at Kargards, Fernstrum & Ballard and retiring in 1994 from Tyco. Dick was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, the American Legion and North Shore Golf Course. He loved to play golf and teach his grandsons how to play as well. His pride and joy was his beloved wife, their children, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Dick is survived by his loving wife, Betty Bretl of 58 years; one son, Richard (Denise) Bretl of Menominee, Mich.; two daughters: Brenda (Ronald) Vogel of Beverly Hills, Fla. and Beverly (David) Schewe of Menominee, Mich.; one son-in-law Carle Paasch of Menominee, Mich.; eight grandchildren including: Brandy Ayers, Jessie (Brandon) Salewsky, Nick (Lisa) Bretl, CJ (Elicia) Paasch, David Schewe Jr., Jennifer Vogel, Andrew Schewe and Sam Schewe; one sister, Linda (Don) DuPont; four brothers: Frank Bretl Jr., Bob (Cookie) Bretl, Warren (Shirley) Bretl and Mike (Dorothy) Bretl. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved daughter, Beth Paasch; one sister, Lorraine LaCombe;, and one brother, Don Bretl.
  Visitation will take place at the Cadieu-Thielen Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 16, 2013, from 4 p.m. until the American Legion services at 5:45 p.m. followed by Military Honors by the 20 Year Club. The Vigil prayer service will begin at 6 p.m. with Fr. Ryan Ford presiding. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, for the repose of the soul of Richard at 11 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Thursday, October 17, 2013, with Fr. Ryan Ford presiding.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Menominee, Mich.
  A memorial fund has been established in Dick's name. Any expressions of sympathy and kindness may be directed to one of the family members.
