Pauline Zipporah Johnson, 95, of Menominee, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2013, at the Luther Home. She was born on August 1, 1917, to the late William J.H. and Annie (Jeffery) Snell in Menominee.
Pauline graduated from Menominee High School in 1934. On July 31, 1954, Polly married Oscar Johnson in Menominee; he preceded her in death on March 6, 2001. Polly as she was known to family and friends worked for Signal Electric Co., M&M Light & Traction, Marvin Malmsten Dealership, and retired from Lloyd Mfg. Co. As a young adult she helped her father raise turkeys on the family farm. She learned her lifelong love of gardening from her parents. Polly could always be seen with a camera in hand, snapping all the important moments. She was a woman of faith and was very active at her church, First United Methodist Church in Menominee, having taught Sunday school, holding numerous offices including, church secretary and treasurer. She was member of the United Methodist Women and was very proud that she had sung in the church choir since she was 16 years of age. Family and friends were most important to her and she hosted many a family "get
together" over the years. She was known for "Polly's baked beans" at the numerous potlucks she attended. Growing up during the Great Depression precluded her from attending college but she sold Avon products, attaining the level of President's Club, so that this would be possible for her two daughters. She was the very best Mom and Grandma in the world. Her ready smile and twinkle in her eye will be missed.
Polly is survived by two daughters: Phyllis Johnson and Carol (Michael) Callow, both of Menominee; honorary daughter and foreign exchange student, Faithe Hanrahan of New Zealand; two grandchildren: Tyler (Jenny Duchateau) Callow of Green Bay and Chelsea (Daniel) Linsmeier of Kewaskum, Wis.; and cherished nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Oscar, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel (Joseph) Kewley and two brothers: William (Lucille) and Thomas (Nathalie) Snell.
Friends may call on Saturday, March 16th from 2 to 4 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Menominee. Funeral Services will be held at 4 p.m. with Rev. Dale Brown officiating.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Cadieu-Thielen Funeral Home is assisting the family.
A memorial fund has been established.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to her caregivers at the Luther Home where she resided the last six years and a very special thank you to Dr. Mantei for his attentive care over the years.
Found tucked in her bible:
Loving Shepherd of Thy sheep, Keep me, Lord, in safety keep;
Nothing can Thy power withstand, None can pluck me from Thy hand.
Loving Shepherd, Thou didst give Thine own life that I might live;
May I love Thee day by day, Gladly Thy sweet will obey.
Loving Shepherd, ever near, Teach me still Thy voice to hear;
Suffer not my step to stray From the strait and narrow way.
Where Thou leadest may I go; Walking in Thy steps below;
Then before Thy Father's throne, Jesu, claim me for Thine own.
