Orpha J. Glass, 94, of Marinette, formerly of Porterfield, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2014, at the Luther Home. She was born March 12, 1919 in the Town of Pound to Hjalmer and Anna (Nelsen) Hansen.
In her early years, Orpha worked at the Marinette Relief office for four years as a secretary and then at the Chainbelt Defense Plant in Milwaukee as an inspector for machine gun parts during World War II. She later married Frank N. Glass and worked for Marinette County at the Register of Deeds and Emergency Government offices until her retirement in 1985. Orpha and Frank had a real love for animals and the land, and they operated a farm for many years. She loved making wool quilts and dolls.
Orpha is survived by her children: Barbara (Buck) Melton, Stephen (Barbara) Glass and Connie (Joe) Ball; grandchildren: Chris and Tracy Garner, Julie Melton (friend, Steve LaMay), Bryan (Melissa) Glass, Mike, Tom and Sierra Glass, Nikki (Mike) Ball Toughhill, Abby (Aaron) Fojtik and Rachel (Mark) Ball Tobin; great-grandchildren: John Garner, Cody Bates, Matthew and Tyler Glass. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; and a sister, Betty Jane Hansen Bizjak.
Friends may call at Luther Home Chapel on Saturday, February 22, 2014, from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. A family funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. with Chaplain Darrel Diers of St. James Lutheran Church officiating.
Burial will be in Glenwood Memorial Gardens.
