Funeral services were held on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at Berth & Rosenthal Funeral Home for Michael R. Beland, of Peshtigo.
Michael passed away on June 21, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. Those who knew Mike know he didn't take losing easily and he wasn't going down without a fight. But throughout his illness, his foremost thought was for his family. With every challenge, his selfless nature put his loved ones first. Such was Mike.
Born in Milwaukee, he moved with his family at a young age to Marinette and graduated in 1975 from Marinette Catholic Central High School. On January 7, 1978, he married his soul mate and the love of his life, Wendy Krizenesky. Mike and Wendy made Peshtigo their home all their married life. Mike was a member of St. Mary Church, Peshtigo. He was a former member of St. Mary's Athletic Club and coached basketball for many years at St. Mary's School. He was also a former member of Marinette Catholic Central Athletic Club where he served two years as an officer. Mike coached basketball at MCC in the early 1980's, was a former member of MCC School Board, and former member of Central's Green and Gold committee. He was also the recipient of 2005-2006 Bill Liegeois Award. Mike always looked forward to his time in the woods and enjoyed both hunting and fishing with his buddies. Most of all, Mike enjoyed the company of his family. He truly loved and was proud of his children and supported them in all their activities. Mike relished family vacations, loved the time 'up north' and the several trips to Disney World.
Michael is survived by his wife, Wendy (the most caring person he knew); two daughters: Heidi (David) Barse, of Freedom and Heather (Brandon Warman) Beland, of Appleton. He is also survived by his grandson and light of his life (his 'little boy'), Cole Barse and his new granddaughter (his 'little sweetie') Addison Barse; a sister, Noreen Beland (his twin born four years apart) of Marinette; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Al and Donna Krizenesky, of Peshtigo; many nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, Gary Raminger, Doug (Lori) Krizenesky, Todd (Nan) Krizenesky and sister-in-law, Dawn (Bruce) Reinhard. He was preceded in death by his sister, Natalie Raminger and a niece, Angela Raminger.
Mike, the English language has yet to invent the words to describe how loved you are and how much you will be missed. Your strength and courage are the anchors to which we pin our grief. If a soul is measured by how much he is loved, then you are the brightest star in the heavens. You made our days beautiful simply by being part of our lives, and we will cherish you always.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at St. Elizabeth Hospital, and Dr. Goggins and his staff for the exceptional care given to Michael.
