Mary O. Emmes, 92, of Marinette, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at Bay Area Medical Center. She was born on January 5th, 1921, to the late Louis and Olive (Kohn) Bretl in Menominee, Mich.
On September 27, 1941, Mary married Edward Emmes at Epiphany Catholic Church in Menominee; He died February 27, 1979. During her early years, Mary worked as a housekeeper for several area families. Following the death of her husband in 1979, she was employed at the Luther Home working there for 15 years. Mary loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, crocheting, crossword puzzles, playing the slots, crafts, as well as beadwork. Mary was a member of Holy Family Parish.
Mary is survived by two daughters: Judy Brown of Marinette and Candice (Jeffrey) Brown of Wausaukee; two sons: Robert (Sandy) Emmes of Baraboo, Wis. and James (Roberta) Emmes Sr. of Marinette: 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Edward, Mary was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Theresa; son Edward Jr.; great-grandson Joshua; one brother; and three sisters.
Friends may call at Thielen Funeral Home on Saturday, April 6, 2013 from 3 to 6 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 6 p.m. with Seminarian Edward Looney officiating.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery Menominee.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the physicians and the staffs at Bay Area Medical Center, first and second floor, ICU unit, Paramedics, Rescue Squad, Luther Home, Father Chenier, Father McQueston, and Father Dorner, for all the wonderful care and kindness shown not only to Mary but her family during this difficult time.
