Mary Katherine Johnson, 91, of Menominee, Mich., passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, March 2, 2013. She was born in Ingallston, Mich. on November 12, 1921 to the late George and Gertrude (Murray) Grabowsky.
Mary graduated from Menominee High School class of 1939. She married (Carl) Lester Johnson and he preceded her in death on October 8, 1973. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Birch Creek. Mary was known for her Irish wit, laughter and warm personality. She loved family gatherings, caring for her grandchildren, and passing down family lore. Coming from a pioneer Ingallston fishing family, she loved the bay shore and never wanted to live anywhere else.
Mary is survived by three daughters: Noreen Johnson, Sandra (Fred) Gignac and Barbara (Joe) Paradis; two sons: Michael (Barb) Johnson and Carl (Joy) Johnson; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, June Ebbole and her sister-in-law, Edyth Sager, and many other family members and friends. Along with her parents and her husband, Mary was preceded in death by four sisters: Jean, Jane, Madlyn and Frances and two brothers: John and Murray.
Friends may call at the Cadieu-Thielen Funeral Home on Thursday, March 7, 2013 from 4 p.m. until the time of prayers at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mary on Friday, March 8, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Birch Creek. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Fr. Corey Litzner will preside.
Burial will be in the Cedar River Cemetery.
