Marian Dorothy Stillman, 96, of Menominee, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home Thursday, Nov. 22, 2018, with her loving family by her side. Marian was born to Albert and Clara Dewey-McConnell in Laramie, Wyoming, on Oct. 19, 1922, the first of seven children.
Marian graduated with honors from Laramie High School at the age of 15, where she also sang in the Laramie High School Glee Club. Still at age 15, she began her studies at the University of Wyoming and later the University of Nebraska. Marian married Howard Benjamin Stillman on March 31, 1944, in Indianapolis, Indiana. The couple moved to Milwaukee where Howard attended Marquette University, and then moved to Menominee, where Howard practiced dentistry, and Marian worked as his dental assistant. Marian and Howard had three children: Nancy, Ken and David. Marian was generous with her time, a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and very active in the Presbyterian church. She taught Sunday School and even researched and wrote the local church history. Marian loved to golf. She was the woman’s club champion at Riverside Country Club many times, and made her first hole-in-one in August of 1996. Marian enjoyed playing golf around Wisconsin and the U.P. on the woman’s traveling team from Riverside, and played well into her 80s. Until a short time ago, she also drove herself to Curves and then the Y every morning to exercise before breakfast. Marian was a successful real estate agent at Century 21 in Marinette and Menominee, earning the prestigious Gold Jacket Award for million dollar sales. And then for many years, Marian used her knack for sales and negotiation by working in the office at Strider Software, the family business. Marian loved life. She loved her family and returned to Laramie as often as possible; the last time for her sister Sally’s Celebration of Life, three months ago.
Marian is survived by her brother, Roger (Lyell) McConnell; her children: Nancy Stillman-Mahn, Ken (Karen) Stillman and David Stillman; her grandchildren Sarah (Ed) Gomes, Ben (Lindsey) Mahn and Alyssa (Tony) Mahn-Totoraitis; and great-grandchildren: Ryan Mahn, Grace Mahn, Paige Gomes and Hannah Gomes as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Marian is preceded in death by her parents: Albert and Clara McConnell; husband, Howard Stillman; siblings: Sally McConnell-Murphy-Scott, Pat McConnell-Ward, Albert McConnell Jr., Dewey McConnell and Myrle McConnell-Brown; and granddaughter, Jennifer Mahn.
The family will hold a memorial service in the spring.
