Leonard Byron "Lenny" Schomer, 95, died at his daughter's home in Vero Beach, Fla. on Sunday, November 17, 2013. He was born July 19, 1918, in Menominee, Mich. to Louise Amy (Evenson) and Ervin Joseph Schomer.
Lenny graduated from Menominee High School in 1936. He served briefly in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Doris Lillian Waugus on July 27, 1943. For 43 years he was a sailor on the Great Lakes working for U.S. Steel, retiring as Captain in 1979. He moved to Vero Beach, Fla. in 1971. He was an avid bowler, and enjoyed an occasional game of golf. Lenny will be especially remembered for his sense of humor, good nature, and generous spirit.
Survivors include his daughters: Diana (Jimmy) Johnson of Jacksonville, Fla., Linda (Thomas) King of Menominee, Mich. and Julie (Douglas) Cleland of Vero Beach, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Lenny was preceded in death by his two brothers and three sisters. His beloved wife, Doris, passed in 1991.
Interment will be held privately in Marinette, Wis. at a later date.
