The sun set on Joseph William McMahon, 94, March 8, 2014, at Rennes Health Center West. Born December 11, 1919, son of the late Byron and Gertrude (Bruso) McMahon, he married the former Phyllis F. Stujenski July 11, 1942. Phyllis preceded him in death March 16, 2003. He married Alice Guenther September 27, 2003.
Joseph sang on the radio with his grandpa and uncle in his younger years and always had a story to tell. Over the years he was employed at the Shipyard in Sturgeon Bay, Marathon Paper, owned and operated McMahon's Bar, had his own sawmill, farmed and worked in the woods all his life.
Joe loved his family which consist of his wife, Alice; his children: Ron (Jean), Joseph (Judy), Mary (Billy Olson) Everard, Gary, Fae (Paul) Olson, Karen (Vern Gisenas) Jarman and John (Pam). His step-children: Donna Reif, Avis (Paul) Poyhonen and George Guenther; 18 grandchildren: Shawn, Amy, James, Gary, Jered, Jolene, Jamie, Andrea McMahon, Marlene Molter, Carol (David) Kedzoir, Jennifer (Steve) Van Dreese, Tom (Nikki) Everard, Eric (Missi) Everard, Mike Olson, Jennifer (Joshua) Farrah, Robin (Jonathon) Thom, Spencer (Charleston) Kelly, Scarlet (Patrick) Harvath; 20 great-grandchildren: Jake, Braeden, Ryan, Brandon, Darek, Hannah, Emily, Kayla, McKenzie McMahon, Steffany and Smanatha Van Dreese, Joshua and Andrew Molter, Ashley (Drew), David (Rose Ann), Noah Everard, Ethan Farrah, Charlie Thom, Chase Arsineau, Lauren Harvath; two great-great-grandchildren: Addison Buyarski and Isabelle Everard; a sister, Betty Lesandrini and a brother-in-law, Robert Presl. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Phyllis; a son, Dennis McMahon; brothers and sisters: Evalina Bittorf, Rosalina Kamine, Edward McMahon, Dorothy Wood, Bernice Malvitz, Willard McMahon, Margaret Presl and Lulu Bell and Bryon McMahon, twins that died at birth.
A celebration of Joe's life will be held Thursday, March 13, at Berth & Rosenthal Funeral from 3 p.m. until time of services at 6 p.m. with Deacon Chuck Shumacher officiating.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Peshtigo.
