John William Gustafson, 78, of Menominee, Mich. passed away with his family by his side on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at Bay Area Medical Center Marinette, Wis. John was born on July 6, 1935, at the Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Ill., to the late Clinton and Pearl (Deschaine) Gustafson.
John joined the United States Air Force on March 19, 1953, till he was honorably discharged on July 23, 1956 during this time he was involved in the Korean War. On May 18, 1957, he married Mary Lou Dionne at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Menominee, Mich. John worked at Giddings & Lewis as a Core Maker for 32 years, retiring in 1998. John was very passionate about serving his county, he also loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. One of the things he enjoyed doing was to take his dog "Buffy" for rides on his electric chair through the trailer court and collect cars.
John is survived by his wife, Mary Lou of 56 years, two daughters: Cynthia (Skip) Renier of Green Bay, Wis., Cheryl (Terry) Poquette of Menominee, Mich.; three sons: John (Ardie) Gustafson of Marinette, Wis., Tim Gustafson of Marinette, Wis. and Tim (Mary Lesjack) Dionne of Menominee, Mich.; seven grandchildren: Shawnee Hart, Dereck Renier, Amanda and Adam Finkler, Brandon, Blake and Alex Gustafson; seven great-grandchildren: Justin and Kendal Hart, Elliot Lokowski, Xavier and Avery Muller, Serenity and Evex Finkler; one sister, Bonnie Arsineau of Menominee, Mich. and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Cathy Gustafson, and one sister, Donna Bouquet.
Private services were held, Cadieu-Thielen Funeral Home are assisting the family.
John's family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff at Bay Area Medical Center, Dr. Khayat, ICU nurses and all the nurses on the 2nd floor, also the Kitchen staff and the cleaning staff thank you for everything you did for John and our family.
