Janell “Jan” Thoney, 78, Cedar River, Mich., passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at Rennes Health Center, West in Peshtigo, Wis., surrounded by his family.  Jan was born on February 25, 1940, in Menominee, Mich., to the late John and Pearl (Krause) Thoney.

On July 29, 1961, Jan married the former Sharon Kakuk in Milwaukee, Wis. Jan worked in construction and sales in both Michigan and Wisconsin. He was a business owner and was involved in many community civic activities such as the Jaycees. He built many relationships which he continued throughout his life. Jan loved sports. He coached football at the YMCA and Stephenson Junior High and Sharon’s softball teams in Michigan and Wisconsin. Jan cheered on his children and grandchildren in their activities and the Green Bay Packers. He had the gift of gab and truly enjoyed his luncheons with his 1958 classmates from Menominee High School. He and his wife Sharon were active participants in the local Parkinson’s support group. Jan cherished time spent with family and friends.  He was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife:  Sharon; four children:  Mary Davison, Tanya (Randy Luraas) Thoney, Michelle Wampler, and Patrick (Julie) Thoney; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sister:  Sharon (Andy) Haywood; brother:  Kent (Judy) Thoney; many nieces and nephews. Jan was preceded in death by his grandson:  Sean Thoney.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2018, at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Precious Blood Catholic Church at 1:00 p.m. Online condolences may be expressed at www.andersondiehm.com.
