James John Noasconi, 86, of Stephenson, Mich., died peacefully in his home on Tuesday, November 12, 2013. Jim was born June 24, 1927, in Wakefield, Mich. to the late James and Louisa (Fenoglio) Novascone. 
James graduated from Wakefield High School in 1945. He served his country in the United States Navy from May, 1945 until he was honorably discharged in July of 1946. Jim married LaVerne Kerkela on August 18, 1956 in Republic Mich. and they made their home in Bessmer, Mich. before moving to Stephenson in 1971. Jim was employed by the Michigan DNR as an Area Fire Supervisor for 37 years until his retirement in 1984. Sports and the outdoors were a passion in Jim's life. He took great pride in attending his grandchildren's sporting events and most recently watching his grandson, Steve, coach high school football. Jim was a Detroit Lions and Tigers fan. He was also a member of the Stephenson Volunteer Fire Department, American Legion Post 43, and Sons of the American Legion Squadron 43. Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years, LaVerne; children: Doreen (Roger) Grinsteiner of Stephenson, Jane Noasconi-Schuster of Whitewater, Wis., Steve (Liz) of Stephenson and Diana Noasconi-Rhodes (Tucker) of Seattle, Wash. He is further survived by his sister, Jean Sawaski of Wakefield, Mich.; nieces and nephews; eight grandchildren: Steve (Sarah), Ashley and Ryan Noasconi, Andrea (Mark) Schick, Erica (Bryan) Motto, Mandy and Lindsay Schuster and Christopher Kartes and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
