Harvey W. Zeitler, of Pound, was welcomed into the glorious kingdom of heaven by his Savior on Saturday, January 4, 2014. He passed away from this earthly life at the age of 90 years at St. Vincent's Hospital in Green Bay. He was born on March 4, 1923, in the Town of Pound to Art and Esther (White) Zeitler.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Coleman, Wis. Harvey graduated from Coleman High School in 1940 and from Marinette County Normal School in 1942. He taught grades 1-8 at the Winesville School in Porterfield from 1942-1943. He served in the United States Navy from 1943-1946 and participated in the D-Day invasion of France aboard the LST 369. He also served as a medical technician with the U.S. Fleet Marines 3rd Corps Artillery in the Okinawa campaign in World War II. On December 8, 1945, Harvey was married to Edna Seils at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in the Town of Beaver. They farmed together in the Town of Beaver from 1946-1992. They were blessed with 68 years of marriage, and their union was blessed with five children. He loved the outdoors, working in the woods, hunting and fishing. The Lord blessed him with a humble Christian faith, and a fervent desire to serve his Lord through his family and his church. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. John in the Town of Grover and a member of the St. John's Men's Club. After he retired he served on the WELS Builders for Christ team for 14 projects.
Harvey is survived by his wife, Edna of Pound; his children: Pastor John (Donna) Zeitler, Belle Plaine of Minnesota, Marilyn (Gary) Buss of Appleton, Gerald Zeitler of Watertown, William (Susan) Zeitler of Waukesha, and Annette (Jeffrey) Timm of Waukesha; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers: Kenneth (Thora) Zeitler of Monroe, Daniel (Marge) Zeitler of Coleman, Glen (Barbara) Zeitler of St. Louis, Mo.; a sister, Mildred (Dale) Berman of Peshtigo; sisters-in-law: Marion Zeitler of Pound, Marian Zeitler of Coleman, LaVerne (Bob) Rouse of Pound; and many nieces and nephews. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; daughters-in-law, Rhoda Zeitler and Shari Zeitler; brothers: Ellsworth, Earl, Arno, Gerhardt and Merlin "Cub"; sisters-in-law: June Zeitler, Dorothy Zeitler, Mary Zeitler, Viola Hartwig; and a brother-in-law, Lester Hartwig.
The Christian funeral service for Harvey will be held on Friday, January 10, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. John, in the Town of Grover, Peshtigo. Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. to the time of service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Charles Learman officiating.
Burial will be at St. John's Church Cemetery, Grover. Military Rites will be performed by the Coleman American Legion.
