Harvey S. Kamps

Harvey S. Kamps peacefully went to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, July 23, 2013. Harvey passed after a lengthy illness that he fought bravely for many years before succumbing. All through his battle you knew he was okay when he responded "Fair to middlin'". Harvey was born to Louis and Elsie (Behnke) Kamps on September 16, 1932.
Harvy went to Evergreen School and then graduated from Lena High School in 1951. He married Sharon Smith on June 6, 1959, at Zion Lutheran Church, Peshtigo. Harvey was a merchant marine on the Great Lakes for several seasons. He worked at Harnischfeger in Milwaukee, logged with his older brother Louis, and worked at Thompson Boats in Peshtigo before finding his true passion in farming. Harvey served on the Elm Dairy Cheese Plant board. He was very active in Farm Bureau for many decades. He also served on the board for the Town of Pound. He loved being a part of the Behnke Family Reunion committee. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Grover and was on the church council.
Harvey is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sharon, who supported him throughout his illness truly showing the marriage vow of "in sickness and in health. They spent many years together .... Harvey is survived by eight of his children: Kelly Wengerter (Don), Kay Kamps, Mark Kamps (Eunice), Colleen Bushmaker (Ron), Carrie King (special friend Chad), David Kamps (Beth), Judy Ducaine (Mark) and Jean Zielinski (Tony). Harvey is also survived by 22 grandchildren: Sarah and Joshua Wengerter; Dan Rutten (special friend Sara) and Mike Rutten (special friend Lindsey); Stephen (Rachael) Kamps, Bridget Biebert (Zac), Albert Kamps (Jenna), Zachary Kamps (special friend Amber); Jessica Stillings (Cole), Mitchell Bushmaker; Lucas and Jadon King; Brian, Lauren, Kevin, Kristen, John, and Isaac Kamps; Kaila Konitzer and Erin Ducaine; and Megan and Travis Zielinski. There are also three great grand-daughters who enriched his life: McKenna (Stephen and Rachael), Maddie and Marnie (Zach Kamps). Harvey is further survived by brothers and sisters: Louis (Dorothy), Raymond (Rose), Leland (Joan), Gerald (Sally), Roland (Sue), Elsie (Sandy) Sandelin, Hilbert (Janice), Ruth List and Rita (Eddie) van Sliedricht. He is further survived by sister-in-law, Lorraine Kamps, and sister and brother-in-law, Bud and Ann (Smith) Lemke. Harvey has many nieces and nephews who loved him. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Elsie Kamps; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leland and Margaret Smith; his son, Brian; granddaughter, Cassie Konitzer; sister Irene Huettner; brothers: Verlin and Harold; sister-in-laws: Marlene, Beverly, Lenore and brother-in-law, Richard List.
Visitation will be held at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Grover on Saturday, July 27, from 10 a.m. until time of services at 2 p.m. with Pastor Charles Learman officiating.
Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
Berth & Rosenthal Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
