Gordon Wallace Coulter, 82, of Elgin, Iowa died Friday, November 15, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Center, West Union, Iowa. He was born on June 8, 1931, to Orren and Vesta (Heaston) Coulter in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Gordon attended Dodge School, Bloomer School, and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School, Council Bluffs in 1949. In 1951, Gordon enlisted in the United States Navy. He sailed around the world on the USS Haynsworth. After being honorably discharged in 1954, he continued his education at Iowa State College. Gordon received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1959. Gordon was united in marriage with Carol Peterson on June 8, 1954, in Marinette, Wis. They had three daughters: Leanne, Mary and Lisa. Gordon worked for Western Electric, Bell Telephone and AT&T, all of his adult life. He was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Naperville, Ill. and a member of the Bethany Evangelical Church in La Crosse, Wis. Gordon enjoyed golfing, reading, traveling, target practice, coin collecting, being a handy man and puzzles. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Carol of 59 years; his three daughters: Leanne (Steve) Carlson of Elgin, Mary (John) Bowman of Verona, Wis. and Lisa (Jon) Abrahamson of Lakeville, Minn.; his six grandchildren: Kelly and Whitney Abrahamson, Steven and Tim Bowman and Peter and Mitchell Carlson and a niece, Paula (Scott) Martin of Kansas. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Orren and Vesta Coulter; his step-mother, Gerda Coulter and his sister-in-law, Marjory Dustman.
Funeral Services were held on Monday, November 18, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Elgin, Iowa with Rev. Lee Boleyn as the Officiant.
Inurnment followed at the Elgin Cemetery, Elgin, Iowa with Military Rites
