Glenn "Yorky" William Olsen, 63, departed this Earth unexpectedly on Friday, September 27, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 18, 1949, to William and Marcy Olsen in Marinette, Wis.
A mass will be said October 17th at 8:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Taylor St., Marinette.
Glenn was a joyful person who had an infectious laugh and laughed often. He loved his dogs: Harley and Maggie, the Packers, music and his family. He felt deeply about music, cried when John Lennon died and was an avid listener to the poetry of Bob Dylan. He loved golf, walking his dogs, and living in Pine Beach. After retiring five years ago, he moved to California. He was a member of several bands including Mill Pond Ferry and Yorky Yorkinson and the New Yorkers. He attended University and was an attender of Woodstock. He was a hippie before any knew what hippies were. Once hippies became part of popular culture, he no longer wished to be one. Mostly what Glenn did was live deeply. He was gentle to those he loved, and was a friend like no other. Throughout the years, he became an accomplished guitarist and was recently asked to perform at a well-known San Diego rock and roll venue.
Glenn is survived by his parents; his daughter, Kris (Walter); his sisters: Susan, Mary and Kris; and brothers: Lee, Bill, Tim and Tom. He is also survived by his grandkids: Dion, d'Sean, Jordyn, Jada, Malachi and Paetyn; and by his great friends in Boulder Creek, Calif.: Dana and Susan Barth, and, of course, Maggie, his loyal companion.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 30, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Lolli's Pub, 2029 Hall Ave., Marinette.
