Frances M. Mouritsen, of Menominee, 90, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2013. She was born on October 4, 1922, in Marinette, Wis. to the late Rasmus and Marie (Madsen) Scheldt.
She attended Marinette Public Schools. On May 31, 1947, she married Ervin J. Mouritsen in Marinette. He preceded her in death on January 11, 2005. Fran worked at the Menominee Glove Factory. Later in life she was employed by the Menominee Public School Food Service for 12 years at Roosevelt Elementary School. She loved her home and was a great homemaker, especially loving to bake and cook. "The Price is Right (especially with Bob Barker), "Wheel of Fortune" and watching Packer games were her favorite television. She loved animals, getting mail (especially from her church and great-grandchildren), going for car rides and having ice cream from the Dairy Queen. She belonged to the Order of Eastern Star and was an early member of the AMVET Auxiliary. Fran was a faithful, longtime member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
She is survived by two daughters: Marilyn Mouritsen of Menominee and Elaine (Raymond) Shrode of Menomonee Falls, Wis.; four grandchildren: David (Michelle) Shrode of Colgate, Wis., Debra Shrode-Olson of Onalaska, Wis., Julie (Bruce) Schilling of Menomonee Falls, Wis. and Mark (Laura) Shrode of Waunakee, Wis.; and eight great-grandchildren: Leah and Katie Olson, Maria, Jennifer, David and Chloe Schilling, Rachel and Timmy Shrode. Also surviving are her twin nephews and their families: Richard (Joan) Rice of Midwest City, Okla. and Michael (Judy) Rice of Tipp City, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Marian (Harold) Rice, and her best friend, Mae Johnson.
There will be no visitation. In accordance with her wishes a private funeral service will be held Sunday, July 14, 2013, in Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home, in Marinette. The Rev. Lee Goodwin will officiate.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Menominee.
A memorial fund has been established.
