Eugene R. Castello, 88, of Marinette passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at the Luther Home. Eugene was born on April 8, 1925 to Eugene and Mary (Bogetto) Castello in Negaunee, Mich.
He graduated from Baraga High School in Marquette, Mich. in 1944. Following high school he served his country in the Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater. After service, Eugene attended St. Norbert College where he earned his BA in Education; later acquiring his Master's Degree in Guidance from MSU. Eugene married Corliss Young on November 26, 1959, at St. Peter's Cathedral in Marquette, Mich. He worked as a guidance counselor in Cadott, Wis. until coming to Marinette in 1966. Eugene worked for the Marinette Public Schools as the Guidance Director until retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa, NEA, WEAC, as well as the MEA.
Eugene is survived by his wife of 54 years, Corliss; sons: Steven (Michele) Castello of Delafield, Wis. and Peter (Barbara) Roepke of Medford, Wis.; grandchildren: Jonathan Roepke, Nicholas Roepke, and Connor Castello; sister, Dolores Vallot of Beaumont, Texas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald.
Friends may call at the Thielen Funeral Home on Monday, January 13, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Parish - Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Taylor St., with Reverend Joseph Dorner officiating.
Entombment will be in Forest Home Mausoleum with Honors provided by the Military 20 Year Club.
