Eleanor B. Farr (Rettke), 91, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Heavenly Father at Bay Area Medical Center on Tuesday, January 7, 2014. She was a resident of The Renaissance in Marinette. She was born in Marinette on April 20, 1922, the daughter of Carl and Alma Rettke.
Eleanor was a graduate of Marinette High School, Class of 1940. She married Robert H. Farr in Brownwood, Texas on August 7, 1943 and they were married for 65 years. Eleanor held employment in various places; in Evanston, Ill. she worked at Erla Radio Factory and Lord's Department Store. After returning to this area she worked at Menominee Glove Co., the Boreal Mfg. Co. and Marinette Knitting Mill. She loved to sew, crochet and work jig saw and crossword puzzles. She taught herself to play the organ and enjoyed playing for family. Her husband, Robert, was an avid fisherman and hunter and Eleanor learned how to turn wild game and fish into delicious meals. Eleanor was a lifelong member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marinette where she belonged to the Mission Sewing Group and made many lap quilts.
She is survived by one son, Dean (Joan) Farr of Arbor Vitae, Wis.; two daughters: Wendy (Steven) Hill of Ishpeming, Mich. and Donna (Daniel) Zorn of Menominee; six grandchildren: Laura (Jason) Freels, Stephanie (Jake) Strasburg, Emily (Lee) Arseneau, Andrew (Sarah) Hill, Erin (Kevin) Aderman and Adam Zorn (fiancé, Lindsay); great-grandchildren: Logan, Norah, Sam, Dylan, Ben, Mercedes, T.J., Janessa, Erin and Tyler; one sister, Alice Nieft; and a sister-in-law, Regis Hofer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents: Carl and Alma Rettke; a brother, Harold Rettke; and three sisters: Viola Ruechel, Lauraine Schuett and Dorothy Millard.
Family and friends may call at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2014. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. on Saturday with the Rev. Jon Tesch and the Rev. Frederick Mueller officiating. Entombment will be in Forest Home Mausoleum in Marinette.
