Edward Batjes, 90, of Coleman, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Rennes Health Center-West, Peshtigo. The son of the late Andrew and Emma (Lentz) Batjes was born February 6, 1923 in Chicago, Ill. 
Edward served in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Doris Babcock on July 22, 1961, in Chicago, Ill. He was an owner/operator truck driver with local 705 in Chicago. He moved to Coleman in the town of Pound several years ago. His wife, Doris, preceded him in death in November 2008.
Surviving are his children: Edward A. (Katherine) Batjes of McHenry, Ill., Henry A. (Eva) Batjes of Plainfield, Ill., George M. Batjes of Chicago, Barbara T. (Joe) Montes of Chicago and Theresa E. Batjes of Chicago; a step-daughter, Ruth Maletz of Chicago; nine grandchildren; one step-grandchild, and one great-grandchild; two brothers: Frank (Carole) Batjes of Chicago and Harry (Hattie) Batjes of Mt. Prospect, Ill.; one sister, Emma "Dolly" (Larry) Vaupel of Chicago; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother, Henry, and a granddaughter, Samantha. 
Relatives and friends may call at Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home, 235 E. Main St., Coleman from 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 29th until the time of funeral services at 2 p.m.  Rev. Nicholas Johannes will officiate.
Interment in Trinity Ev. Lutheran Cemetery, Coleman with Military Rites by the Coleman American Legion and VFW.
