Don J. Schroeder, 92, of Loomis, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2014. He was born September 7, 1921, to the late Joseph and Lena (Kaufman) Schroeder.
At the age of ten, Don lost his father, leaving him to help his mother run the store in Loomis. At the age of sixteen, he bought his first truck and started hauling gravel. Then his country called him to duty. He served four years with the United States Army in World War II and became Staff Sergeant of the Motor Pool. Returning from the war he started hauling gravel, coal and wood. He then went into logging. Don married Joyce L. Kingston, and together spent 68 years of marriage together. He started Schroeder Implement in the early 70’s. His hobby was his business. He was happy visiting with his customers, which many became his good friends. Don loved nature and riding around his property looking for wildlife. He went for rides every Sunday looking for that special tractor for his collection. Don spent over 60 years as a member of the American Legion Post 476 at Loomis, and at one point was Commander of the post. Don was a strong independent man yet caring, kind and giving. He will be truly missed.
Don leaves behind his wife Joyce; a son, Tab Schroeder, Loomis; a daughter, Linda Olsen, Marinette; a stepson, Dennis (Donna) Strutz, Pound; five granddaughters, nine great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by four brothers and sisters-law: Tom and Mackie, Earl and Martha, Roy and Mary, and a sister, Helen (Leo) Halbrook.
Don requested there be no formal Funeral Services, he wanted you to remember him the way he was.
