Don Bolen, 88, W5596 Elmwood Rd. Menominee, Mich., passed away peacefully at Aurora Hospital in Green Bay on May 27, 2013. He was born in Cedar River, Mich., on May 22, 1925, to William and Sarah (Hooper) Bolen.
Don worked at several jobs when he returned from the Navy before starting at Scott Paper and retiring after 28 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and spending time with family, friends, and neighbors. Don was very happy he was able to go on the honor flight last year. He will be fondly remembered for his infectious laugh over the silliest of things and his mispronunciations of many common words. On October 27, 1951, he married Janice (Bottkol) Bolen.
Don is survived by three sons: Pat (Jean) Marinette, Mike (Sue) Menominee, Joe Titusville, Fla. and one daughter, Cheryl (Chris) Matthiesen of Suamico. Don is further survived by eight grandchildren: Jerry, Jodi, Jenifer, Lisa, Jenny, Kayla, Nolan, and Mitchell and six great- grandchildren. Along with his wife, Don was preceded in death by his parents: William and Sarah Bolen; three sisters: Virginia, Eva, and Irene; one brother, Bryce; an infant son, Mark, and son, Don Jr.
Family and friends may call at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church on Friday, May 31, 2013 from 1:00 pm until time of Memorial Mass at 2:00 pm. Father Michael Ocran officiating.
Burial will follow in Birch Creek Cemetery with Military honors. Anderson Kell Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed at www.andersondiehm.com.
