Clarence E. Engel, 89, Peshtigo, Wis., passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2017, at BAMC. He was born on May 11, 1927, to the late Robert and Helena (Kamin) Engel in Daggett and lived there until his family farm burned. The family then moved to Menominee when he was in the third grade.
Clarence graduated from Menominee High School in 1946. He had worked at Lloyd Flanders for a few years and went on to serve his country in the Army during the Korean War. Following service he moved to Racine and worked for SC Johnson Wax for many years, retiring in 1986. On August 25, 1962, Clarence married Mae Beth Coe; she preceded him in death on August 20, 1990. On Sept. 28, 1991, Clarence married Doris Cota-Mileski. They moved to Peshtigo in 1992, and have resided here since. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Men’s Club. He loved gardening, playing cards, walking in the woods, feeding the deer and birds, and was an active member of the church.
Clarence is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth (Dan) McLaughlin of Duluth, Minn.; and Mary Poquette of Marinette; sons: Paul (Robin) Mileski of Springfield, Ga., David (Deborah) Mileski and James (Kristi) Mileski, both of Menominee; 16 grandchildren: Elanor, Nadine, Becky, Lisa, Kelly (Todd), Joy (Peter), John (Brandi), David (Carrie), Angela (Chris), Jennifer (Matthew), Megan (Sam), Michael (Kelly), James (Sarah), Tyler, McKenzie and Ethan; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. In addition to his parents and first wife, Mae Beth; he was preceded in death by a stillborn son, and eight brothers: Robert E., Arnold, Robert W. Ervin, Earl, Donald, Walter and Glen; and three sisters: Helena, Dorothy and Helen.
Visitation will be on Sunday, February 12th from 2 to 4 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Marinette. Funeral Services will be at 4 p.m. with Rev. Kevin Dembinski officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park in Racine, Wis. Thielen Funeral Home is assisting the family.
