Clarabelle (Claire) Schmeltzer, 86, of Marquette, passed away Saturday morning, October 12, 2013, at her home, in the care of her family and caregivers. Claire was born August 2, 1927, in Daggett, a daughter of Russell, Sr. and Mabel Plutchak of Ingalls.
Clarabelle was a 1944 graduate of the Stephenson High School and from Northern Michigan College in 1948. In 1988, she retired from the State of Michigan Department of Social Services after twenty-eight years of service.
Survivors include her two daughters, Terry (Mark) Dennis, Jan Peck (John Peterson); her grandchildren: Kaitlin (Jim) McGinn and Parker Dennis; and great-grandchild: Cecilia McGinn. Locally, she is survived by a sister, Patricia (Henry) Truitt; sister-in-law, Patricia Plutchak; nieces and nephews: Tim (Sherri) Plutchak, Dan (Karen) Plutchak, Tammy Plutchak, John Truitt and Jayme Truitt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, in 1970; a brother, Russell Plutchak, Jr; and a sister, Shirley Bryla.
Private family graveside services will be held at the Holy Cross Cemetery in the Spring of 2014.
