Charlotte Veronica Powers (Gibeault), 99, of rural Peshtigo, passed away unexpectedly at Bay Area Medical Center on Friday, October 25, 2013. Charlotte was born on February 16, 1914, in Coleman, Wis. to the late Aristide and Evelyn (LaValley) Gibeault.
Charlotte graduated from Coleman High School in 1932. On June 28, 1941, she married John E. "Jack" Powers in Coleman, Wis. They celebrated 59 years of marriage. Jack preceded her in death in 2001. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Peshtigo, Wis. and lived most of her life in the Peshtigo area. Charlotte attended Marinette County Teachers College graduating in 1933. In 1965 she graduated from University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh earning a BS degree in Elementary Education. She began her teaching career in one room school houses in the Coleman and Harmony areas and ended her career teaching 6th grade for many years at Peshtigo Elementary School, retiring in 1977.
Charlotte is survived by two daughters: Donna (Wayne) Jensen of Milwaukee, Wis., and Leila (Terry) Wanke of Sun City, Ariz., three sons: John (Lorraine) of Blue Springs, Mo., Dale (Patty) of Crivitz, Wis. and Dean (Debby) of Salida, Colo., three grandchildren: Wendy Jensen (Ben Bell) of Madison, Wis., Sheila (Jason) Keaton of Madison, Wis. and Nathan Powers of Blue Springs, Mo.; and one great-granddaughter, Ivy Charlotte Mable Keaton of Madison, Wis. She is further survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Bernard and Clara of Mukwonago, Wis. two sister-in-laws: Philomine (Phil) Powers of Crivitz, Wis. and Gloria Larson of Menomonee Falls, Wis.; many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, and very special friends: Debbie Garbrecht and Pat Stibbe. In addition to Jack, Charlotte was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jean; and an infant son, Peter; four brothers: Harris, George, Leonard, and Paul; and five sisters: Lucille, Leona, Beatrice, Adeline and Marie.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening, October 29, 2013 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The rosary and prayer service will follow. On Wednesday morning, October 30, 2013, visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 141 S Wood, Peshtigo, WI, 54157. Funeral Mass and the Burial to Follow at 10:30 a.m. Luncheon to follow in the parish hall.
She was a great lady and an inspiration to all of us. She lived a long and wonderful life and touched many with her positive outlook an determination. We are all very lucky to have had as many years with her as we did and she will be greatly missed.
