Charles Hilmer Newlin Sr., 75, of Menominee, Mich. passed away on Saturday April 6, 2013, at Bay Area Medical Center with his family by his side. Charlie was born on June 24, 1937, in Menominee to the late Hilmer and Gladys (Marshall) Newlin.
On February 2, 1979, Charlie married the former Shirley Bucholtz. Shirley preceded him in death on February 3, 1992. Charlie worked as a commercial fisherman and logger along with working at KSU for 27 years retiring in 1997. Upon his retirement, Charlie owned and operated C&N Excavating. Charlie enjoyed the outdoors and feeding wildlife. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and following their sporting events. Charlie further enjoyed watching and following NASCAR and Friday Night Races in Norway, Mich.
Charlie's family includes his children: Carla (Mike) Riihinen of Owen, Wis., Nancy Henderson of Columbia, Mo., Charles Newlin Jr. of Menominee, Mich., Deborah (George) Davidson of Mexico, Mo., the late Kimmy (Newlin) Malke, Donna (Douglas) Kaster of Menominee, Mich. and Cheryl (Randy) Harris of Wallace, Mich.; mother of his children, Sandy Anderson of Marinette, Wis.; step-children: James Smith of Stiles, Wis. and Connie (Tom) Smith of DePere, Wis.; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; brother, Robert Newlin of Menominee, Mich.; sister-in-law, Regina Newlin of Port Washington, Wis.; and good friends: Jerry Tanguay and Gust Johnson. Charlie was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimmy (Newlin) Malke and brother, James Newlin.
Family and friends may call at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home, Stephenson on Thursday, April 11, 2013 after 4 pm. Funeral Service for Charlie will be held on Friday, April 12, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Paul Hueter officiating.
Burial will be in Mellen Township Cemetery.
