Alphonse F. Oczus, 90, of Stephenson, Mich., passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2013, at Roubal Care and Rehab Center. Al was born on November 5, 1923, in Chicago, Ill. to the late Frank and Antoinette (Klesna) Oczus.
In 1949, Al married the former Shirley Droese in Chicago, Ill. Shirley preceded him in death on April 6, 2000. Al worked as a self employed sawmill operator for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to auction sales and sitting around the coffee table socializing with the guys at the coffee shop. Al further enjoyed reading, watching the Green Bay Packers and talking to people all over the world on his Hamm radio. Al was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church.
Survivors include his three daughters: Susan (Don) Zobel of Rice Lake, Wis., Judy Hannon of Stephenson, Mich. and Linda Oczus of Milwaukee, Wis.; four sons: Tom (Carol), Frank (Ruth), Al "Doc" (Mary), all of Stephenson, Mich. and Mike (Heidi) of Menominee, Mich.; 20 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; and sister, Josephine Crusnow of Chicago, Ill. Al was preceded in death by two brothers: Peter and William; and two sisters: Marion Olbrot and Theresa Cruso.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Al on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Precious Blood Catholic Church with Father Ronald Timock officiating.
Burial will follow in Stephenson Township Cemetery.
