MENOMINEE - The Menominee freshman football season has been canceled due to a lack of players.
Athletic director Dale VanDuinen made the decision Tuesday night after the team was unable to field more than 12 or 13 players for practice.
The members of the team will join the junior varsity team.
"It's an unfortunate situation, but we have to look at what's best for the kids," VanDuinen said.
VanDuinen and freshman coaches Jeff Bayerl and Drew Buyarski tried recruiting players for the team but their efforts were unable to save the program for this season.
