MARINETTE — A man was killed during an early morning officer-involved shooting.

Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve stated that at 12:10 a.m. there was an incident involving a male suspect and a handgun at a motel in the City of Marinette. It is unclear yet whether it was a robbery attempt or domestic incident.

The suspect was determined to be near a residence on State Highway 64 in the town of Peshtigo. When Sheriff's Deputies and Marinette City Police officers arrived on location, they saw a male enter a vehicle and head westbound on Highway 64.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle on Schacht Road. The vehicle went partially into the ditch and the male suspect emerged from the vehicle armed with a handgun, placing officers in danger.

The suspect was shot by officers and died at the scene. No Marinette officers or Sheriff's Deputies involved were injured.

Sauve held a news conference at 11 a.m. Information from that news conference will be shared in more detail in Thursday's EagleHerald.

The incident is still under investigation and State Highway 64 will be closed and detoured from County RW on the west and at the Marinette city limits on the east for several hours. The name of the deceased male subject and other information has not yet been released.
