MARINETTE — Run, walk or skip — the River Cities Community Pool and the DAR Boys & Girls Club are inviting any and all to fill the streets of Marinette with holiday cheer on Saturday for the first-ever “Da Santa Speedo 5K Run/Walk.”

Day-of registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the River Cities Community Pool, 1125 University Drive. The event will begin at 9 a.m. with a free stretch and flex session, hosted by Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus. The race starts at 10 a.m. following stretching, and will follow a route from the River Cities Community Pool parking lot along the river, down Bay Shore and W. Bay Shore streets to Dousman Street and back. There will be a water stop around the halfway point by the city walking trails.

In order to participate, there is a $25 registration fee for those attending. The price includes an official “Da Santa Speedo” t-shirt and a photo opportunity with Santa, as well as a “swag bag.” All proceeds will benefit the DAR Boys & Girls Club and River Cities Community Pool, two of the area’s non-profit organizations.

According to River Cities Community Pool Director Kasey Eisch-Ermis, costumes are highly encouraged. Suggestions include red Speedo swimwear, garland tutus, ugly Christmas sweaters, Christmas elf gear or reindeer horns. Awards will be given to both men and women in the categories of “Best Dressed” and “Fastest Times.”

Da Santa Speedo 5K Run/Walk is new this year in conjunction with Da Yooper Plunge, which is planned for Jan. 26, 2019.

“For River Cities Community Pool, along with the DAR Boys & Girls Club, (Da Yooper Plunge) is the biggest fundraiser of the year,” Eisch-Ermis said. “It’s literally how we keep the doors open here.”

The 5K is a kick-off event for Da Yooper Plunge, and Eisch-Ermis said she is hoping “that people who do the run will be more inclined to do something with the winter event.”

Attendees can pre-register for Da Santa Speedo 5K Run/Walk by calling Kasey Eisch-Ermis at 715-735-0585, or by visiting the River Cities Community Pool at 1125 University Drive. The $25 fee is a flat rate, but participants must have pre-registered by Nov. 28 to be guaranteed a t-shirt on Saturday. Those who register after Nov. 28 will receive their t-shirts at a later date.
