Drive garners more than 250 new toys
OCONTO  — The Triple C Riders’ eight annual toy drive garnered more than 250 new toys which they donated to HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital, Dec. 20. The toys will be distributed, throughout the year, to children who are being cared for or have a loved one being cared for at the hospital in the hope that they will provide some joy and comfort.
The Riders are a non-profit organization designed to support the needs of Marinette, Menominee and Oconto counties and their coordinated toy drive serves three hospitals in the area.
ALA Unit 66 updates public
SILVER CLIFF — The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 66 of Athelstane/Silver Cliff presented its 2017 Scholarship Awards, in the amount of $1,000 each, to Wausaukee High School students Jason Jaworski and Courtney Hoffeller, at the Silver Cliff Town Hall, Dec. 21. 
An anonymous member of the unit also brought good cheer and joy to the children of the McGee family by purchasing individual gifts for each child. The gifts were delivered to appreciative recipients Dec. 21.
Post 146 to host champagne breakfast
MENOMINEE — The Menominee American Legion Post 146, 818 1st St., will host a champagne breakfast at the post Jan. 1 from 9 a.m. to noon. The menu will include steak, eggs, hashbrowns and dessert at a cost of $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 years and younger.
Dog training classes to begin
MARINETTE — The Tri-County Dog Training Academy will begin their dog obedience classes at the Marinette Armory, 2000 Mary St., Jan. 16 with puppies at 6 p.m., beginners at 7 and advanced at 8. Advance registration is suggested as classes fill up. Orientation will take place Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. with preregistration starting at 6:30 p.m. Dogs do not attend orientation night. Free snowshoes offered through program
MENOMINEE — Free snowshoes for both adults and children can be rented through the Snow Trek program at the Greater Marinette-Menominee YMCA, 1600 West Drive; Moraska Saw & Supply, W3894 U.S. 2, Powers; the Public Health Department, 305 Ludington St., Escanaba; or the Escanaba Civic Center, 204 21st St. N, during normal business hours.
