CoVantage Cares donates to Y
MENOMINEE — As part of their “Giving Tuesday” campaign and the overwhelming response from credit union members, staff and the community, the CoVantage Cares Foundation donated $822 to the Greater Marinette-Menominee YMCA.
The Foundation announced that checks totaling nearly $240,000 will be presented to local non-profit groups that serve communities where CoVantage Credit Union has branches.
Quilters make donations
MARINETTE — The Northwoods Quilters Club of the tri-county area donated 47 teddy bear/doll quilts to The Salvation Army and received a request for children’s pillow cases from the Homeless Shelter. Their regular monthly meeting was held Dec. 11 with show ‘n share followed by a potluck meal.
The next meeting will be held at Pioneer Presbyterian Church, 1947 Riverside Ave., Jan. 8 at 9:30 a.m. There will be 10-minute demos of techniques or tools by six experienced quilters followed by lunch and show ‘n share and in the afternoon, working on charity projects.
The club is open to new members with all levels of experience who will need to attend two meetings before being invited to join.
Ice Rink to hold free skating
MENOMINEE — The Duby Park Ice Rink, 406 4th Ave., will be opening Jan. 2 with free skating hours Monday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Menominee County Family Court personnel will serve refreshments, while supplies last, in the warming house beginning Jan. 5.

Cellcom offers scholarships
MARINETTE — Cellcom will award 16 $750 scholarships to graduating high school seniors across its service area this year. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic record, potential to succeed, leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience and an essay on community involvement. Financial need is not considered.
Applicants must reside within a county in Wisconsin or Michigan where Cellcom operates and be planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two or four year college, university or technical school. Only online applications will be accepted and are due by March 15.

Law scholarships available
MARINETTE — The Federated Youth Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, is accepting applications for the 2018 Charles Van Sickle Scholarship, a $2,000 award open to a pre-law or law student who resides in Wisconsin and plans to specialize in cooperative law. The scholarship is made possible by an endowment to honor electric cooperative lobbyist and attorney, the late Charles Van Sickle.
