MARINETTE — St. Thomas Aquinas Academy’s annual auction will take place April 2 in the high school gym. Each year, hundreds of friends, family, alumni and supporters come and spend the day bidding, buying, visiting with friends and sampling dishes from the international food booths. This is the largest fundraiser each year for the academy and is open to the public.
Volunteers have been gathering donations, big and small, from businesses and individuals for the live and silent auctions and the day will move along under the direction of Auctioneer Henry Yoap, of Yoap & Yoap Auction Services. The live auction features several trips and experiences this year.
Included in the auction is a trip to the 2017 US Open at Erin Hills Golf Course near Milwaukee in June. This package includes two grounds passes for June 17 and 18 final rounds, as well as two Trophy Club Pavilion passes, a three-night stay at the Hyatt, Hilton or Marriott in Milwaukee, with daily round trip transfers from the hotel to the course.
A Whiskey Tasting and Dessert party is back by popular demand this year. This is a private gathering that includes several specialty whiskeys gathered on the Kentucky Bourbon trail that are only available at the distilleries. These libations are paired with desserts for 12 adults. Unique items this year include an oak grandfather clock by Sligh, a carved oak desk and chair, and a barrister bookcase. These items may be viewed in the front entry of the Marinette campus.
The silent auction areas include: Shop the Holiday Booth, Tots to Teens, the Women’s Booth, Men’s Booth, and the Pantry for items that include gift baskets, handmade items, tools, spa gifts, artwork and homemade goods. A big bucket raffle is being added this year offering several chances to win for all.
A Spring Raffle is being held in conjunction with the auction. Raffle tickets are $20 each or six for $100 and all proceeds benefit the Tuition Assistance Fund. The first prize is $1,000, second is $500, and third is $250. All prizes will be awarded by check. The drawing will be held at the end of the second live auction segment. The winners do not have to be present to win.
The auction committee is chaired by Kathy Denby, assisted many volunteers to help it all come together. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., April 2 and auction booklets, complete with listings of all live auction items and a bidding number will be available for $10 each.
The committee is still accepting donations, large and small for the event. People interested in making a tax-deductible contribution with a gift or an item of any size may call the St. Thomas Aquinas Academy High School office, 715-735-7481.
