MARINETTE — The Hi-Q academic quiz competition for high school students, sponsored by the Farmers & Merchants Bank & Trust, in cooperation with The Kimberly-Clark Corporation and UW-Marinette, is in full swing. The public is invited to each competiton as 18 schools from Northeast Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula actively compete. Each school’s team is composed of eight students and counseled by a a team adviser who is a representative of the school faculty.
The standings in the competition after the first round are Marinette High School, 53 points; Menominee, 45; Peshtigo and Stephenson, 37 each; Wausaukee, 36; Crivitz, 35; Oconto, 33; Suring, 30; Gilllett, 29; Coleman and Niagara, 27 each; Oconto Falls, 26; Florence, 24; Norway, 20; and Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine, 15.
The competition continues as Gillett hosts teams from Peshtigo and Florence high schools, today at 10 a.m., and Coleman hosts Suring and Niagara, 1:30 p.m; Oconto Falls will host Norway and Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine high schools, Tuesday, 10 a.m.; and Oconto will host Menominee and Stephenson, 1:30 p.m.
After the finals competition, first-, second- and third-place teams from that contest will win cash awards for their schools of $2,000, $1,500 and $1,000, respectively. For more information on the program or to see the full schedule, persons may log on to www.fmmarinette.com and click on the Hi-Q pages.
