MARINETTE — The Lions Club Advisory Committee is inviting groups to apply for funds from the Chet Krohn Trust which is administered by the Farmers & Merchants Bank & Trust of Marinette. Krohn, a lifetime educator who died in 1996 leaving the bulk of his estate in trust for advancement of Menominee and Marinette counties with particular emphasis on education, was also a devoted member of the Marinette Lions Club. He directed that one member of the Peshtigo, Marinette and Menominee Lions Club form a committee to decide how the income from the trust is to be distributed. Since its inception in 1998 over $225,000 has been distributed with annual awards in excess of $15,000.
Some of the recipients of the funds include the Menominee High School Forensic Team and theatre program; Marinette High School Robotics Team; Marinette Menominee and Peshtigo recreation departments; Coleman School District’s Every 15 Minutes program; the new Community REC Center in Marinette; The Salvation Army; Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra; Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Youth Group and annual scholarships to graduates of Marinette, Menominee, Saint Thomas Aquinas Academy, Peshtigo and Stephenson high schools.
For more information or to apply for funds, persons may call Ruth Thielen or Tom Maxwell Sr. at the bank.
